制作者原话：The Penitential Mask or metallic hood of The Penitent One, which is probably its most characteristic visual element, is partially inspired .by the robes of the penitents during Holy Week,so strongly rooted in the culture of Southern Spain. However, its historical origins date back to the Middle Ages, where the sambenito, which was the name by which this garment was known, was used by penitents to publicly expose repentance for their sins. It was later used by the Inquisition, forcing the accused to wear the garment as a symbol of shame whose different colors and symbols embodied in those fabrics described the crimes that were charged . and the type of sentence to which they would be submitted.
制作组原话：At the same time, the design work of the metallic and inexpressive face of the helmet was a long process. In order to make players identify with The Penitent One in the way that the game inspired us, we made the decision to dispossess him of his face, thus granting him a halo of mystery and anonymity. To accomplish this, we made sketches of all kinds of masks, looking for references in diferent cultures and historical periods without finding the expression (or lack thereof) sufficiently crude and shocking that we needed, until we discovered the images of the Roman imperial masks found in the Kalkriese hill, in Lower Saxony (Germany), the site of the battle of the Teutoburg Forest (1st century B.C.). The lustrous and impassive factions that these masks granted to their wearers caused the terror of their adversaries, who saw their own wounds reflected in them, and it was then that we knew they were the perfect reference to endow the violence of The Penitent One with the serene and inflexible determination we wanted.
