Tasked by your leader Togen to collect Cassettes that power your colony's ship, you'll venture out into the expanse. My partner and I started to delegate responsibilities as soon as we left our primary colony and headed for our travel ship. I helmed the main gun for the majority of our playthrough, blasting away any enemy ships or rockets that came within spitting distance. My partner in crime took the reigns of the ship itself, and he deftly drifted us through dangerous corridors, dashed out of the way of incoming attacks, and sometimes got us lost to the point where we struggled to make our way back on track.
Early on, my partner and I explored a large mining operation run by robots with a knack for rhythm, which forced us to move to the beat as we looked for a Cassette in the deepest depths of mine shafts. We would pound in time with large drums, hop across moving platforms that swung side to side to the groove, and even found some form of alien life screaming along with the tune. These engaging moments mixed the world of Orbitals into the puzzle designs, making each puzzle feel contextually interesting and relevant as they fit with that rhythmic theme.
Most puzzles put the focus on a few different weapons that are introduced early on. Rather than constantly reinventing the wheel in each new level, Orbitals teaches you the primary ways you will interact with the world around you and then puts smart twists on those fundamentals throughout. Each zone will often require two different gadgets that are stashed on your ship – these range from a laser beam that powers robots and guides drones to a grappling gun used to open panels and rotate platforms. My partner and I often took turns swapping between this simple yet effective arsenal of puzzle-solving tools, constantly trying to guess who would have the more interesting job once we reached a level and who would be relegated to moving platforms for the other person.
We solved a myriad of puzzles as we bounced from sector to sector – some were great, demanding teamwork or making us feel clever for having figured them out, while others felt more like we just stumbled into the answer rather than discerning a satisfying solution. More than once we were left scratching our heads wondering why something had worked, which speaks to a general lack of visual feedback. While many interactable objects are clearly marked with identifiable imagery, it's not always intuitive what Orbitals wants you to do with those pieces.
Challenges like that are where Orbitals really shines – the tandem nature of these hurdles forced us to tighten up our communication even if we both thought we were Pacific Rim drift compatible. It required focus as we swirled around this seemingly never-ending maze of twists and turns, but once we locked in and got our methods airtight, we overcame the obstacle and improved our communication skills in the process.
Introducing all of its base weapons upfront means you're exposed to fewer new mechanics as you get deeper in. As a consequence, Orbitals struggles to do anything transformative or with a final flourish toward the end. Two-thirds of the way through, I felt I had seen all of the tricks it had to offer, and an overreliance on its ship sections began to wear on me. While there were a few small surprises here and there, I spent the last three or so hours mostly going through the motions as I waited to see how it would wrap up. For how short of a game Orbitals is, it feels like it stumbles across the finish line with its final few sequences rather than taking a triumphant victory lap.

Rather than constantly reinventing the wheel in each new level, Orbitals teaches you the primary ways you will interact with the world around you and then puts smart twists on those fundamentals throughout.
Orbitals teaches you... and then puts smart twists on...——由 and 并列两个谓语(teaches 和 puts)。teach 后接双宾 you + the primary ways,省略了引导词的定语从句 you will interact with the world around you 修饰 ways。开头 Rather than constantly reinventing the wheel...
Introducing all of its base weapons upfront means you're exposed to fewer new mechanics as you get deeper in.
Introducing all of its base weapons upfront means...——动名词短语 Introducing... means 后接 that 从句(that 省略),you're exposed to fewer new mechanics。as you get deeper in
For how short of a game Orbitals is, it feels like it stumbles across the finish line with its final few sequences rather than taking a triumphant victory lap.
For how short of a game Orbitals is 是一个让步状语,how short of a game + 主系表结构作 For 的宾语(考虑到《轨道双子星》是一款这么短的游戏)。主句 it feels like it stumbles across the finish line——"它感觉像是踉跄着冲过终点线"。rather than taking a triumphant victory lap
考点:① For how short of a game + 主系表 让步状语(how 引导的从句作介词宾语);② feels like 引导表语从句(省略 that);③ rather than doing 接动名词;④ stumble 比喻用法 + victory lap 文化梗(体育比赛中夺冠后绕场一周庆祝)。
和 "within walking distance / within a stone's throw" 是一个量级的口语化表达。

(提示词:fundamental、smart twists on...)
1. B。原文:I helmed the main gun for the majority of our playthrough——负责主炮,选 B。
2. B。原文:Introducing all of its base weapons upfront means you're exposed to fewer new mechanics——基础武器前置导致后期新机制变少,选 B。
4. B。作者写 even if we both thought we were Pacific Rim drift compatible —— 转折强调"我们自以为是机甲驾驶员那种默契,但实际还得花时间磨合",选 B。
After teaching you the fundamentals, the game doesn't keep repeating the same tricks; instead, it puts smart twists on them in every level.
踩分点:① fundamentals 用词到位(六级词);② 转折 not...instead 结构清晰;③ smart twists on...
For how short of a game Orbitals is, it feels like it stumbles across the finish line with its final few sequences rather than taking a triumphant victory lap.
这句是给"短篇作品"评测时的万能判词模板——For how short of X it is, it feels like... rather than...。
● For how short of a movie it is, it feels like it stumbles across the finish line rather than taking a triumphant victory lap.
● For how short of a talk it was, it left the audience thinking for days rather than walking out bored.
